The Person Who, The Place Where, The Reason Why…

In addition to the language on the previous page, we can also add emphasis to a part of a sentence by beginning with The person who/ The place where / The reason why/ The thing that / The time that / The first time that / The last person who …, etc + clause + be with the emphasised part of the sentence at the end.

Take the following examples:

My cousin helped me the most when I was down = The person who helped me the most when I was down was my cousin.

We stayed at a fantastic place = The place where we stayed was fantastic.

She left him because of his cheating = The reason why she left him was his cheating.

I’ve never been more scared than the first time I went skydiving = The first time I went skydiving was the most terrifying day of my life.

In the following exercise, rewrite the sentences starting with The person who, The place where, The reason why, The first time that …,etc. The emphasis needs to be on the phrase in bold.
