It Was, It Is…

 

Another cleft structure which you can use for emphasis begins with It + is/was followed by the part of the sentence you want to emphasise and a relative clause. For example: 

I don’t know why you’re having a go at me about getting lost – you said to go left when we should’ve gone right = I don’t know why you’re having a go at me about getting lost – It was you who said to go left when we should’ve gone right.

It is important to note that after is/was the object pronoun is used (me/you/them/him/her/us) when a pronoun is needed.

In the following exercise, rewrite the first sentences placing the emphasis on the words in bold.
